The edge seal hybrid mat comprises one or two narrow strips of interfirm 300 mat on one or both sieds of a wide strip of intumescent mat. The interfirm 200 mat strips protect the leading and/or trailing edges of the intumescent mat from erosion caused by impingement, high temperature, and pulsation effects of the exhaust gas.
